Alanya Castle

Alanya Castle is a popular destination with visitors to the area. It is situated on a hill 250m above sea level and offers great views of Alanya's coastline and town.
Most of the castle was built in the 13th century under the Seljuk Sultanate of Rûm following the city's conquest in 1220 by `Ala' ad-Din Kay-Qubad. After the area was pacified under the Ottoman Empire in the 19th century the castle ceased to be purely defensive and numerous villas were built inside the walls.
